A Family of Time
The Man at the Hotel
The Man at the Hotel
I had a feeling that there might be at least a few people who would be wondering about that man who pretended to be a part of the security detail assigned to the MacMurchaids. I will try to fill in a few details surrounding this individual and what possibly happened with him.
Throughout history, but even more within recent history, there have been those who want to see plans of any nation fail. Whether it is a small group, a military faction, a foreign agency or another government, there has been someone wanting to cause havoc within one or multiple governments through at least one act. I could give a number of examples, but I think two will suffice: World Trade Center and the Oklahoma City bombing. With those examples I am showing that acts of violence can be brought about by not just foreign groups, but can come within one's own country.
Enough with that and let us get back to the security impostor who apparently planned on kidnapping the MacMurchaids or possibly set off explosive devices within the hotel where they were at is the kidnapping failed. Robert, who had military background, knew how certain protocols were to be followed when a detail is guarding individuals. Besides his gut feeling that something was off about this individual, he noticed certain things were off visibly with the man before him. His suspicions were confirmed with how the guy reacted to Geoff Pitts getting off the elevator. That reaction allowed Robert to react and help capture this individual. This capture wasn't quick and easy, but with Geoff's help and the techniques Robert had learned over his lifetime, the suspect was subdued and captured.
As for why this individual was never mentioned again during the rest of the novel, the family was never informed so their minds and feelings could deal with what was ahead of them. If they were kept up with details related to and surrounding this individual, they could become distracted during their training or let fear slow their reaction times down. The space agency and the government didn't want anything to come in the way of this family seeing their future.
Another reason for no further mention related to the hotel incident is since this was being viewed as an act of violence while a government supported activity was happening, security protocols took place to keep the general population safe by keeping everything secret. Most likely this individual was moved between a few facilities before being taken to a military facility. During all of this those in charge would be trying to determine who this individual is, what affiliations he is associated with, And if he was acting alone or was he with a larger group hiding in the shadows.
It is unknown to the MacMurchaids as to what has been found out concerning the hotel incident, but to some of their friends you can almost be certain that once the space station was destroyed that with their security levels they were informed of everything. As war started breaking out, it was decided to let the MacMurchaids sleep through everything happening on earth. It was predetermined before Odin's activation, that certain information be blocked from his access. This incident was one such piece of information withheld, thus why the MacMurchaids have no knowledge beyond what they already knew.
